"Sex Parade," from famed Brazilian director Max Julien, takes place in and around the streets of São Paulo, Brazil. After a considerable amount of cruising during the festivities, go-go boy Renato di Giorgio hooks up with Jorge Rios and Alfonso Ribeiro for a midday three-way. Set against last year's extravagant Gay Pride celebration in Rio de Janiero, Max Julien's Sex Parade captures both the communal excitement and the sexual electricity generated by such festivities. Everywhere there are rainbow flags and balloons, amusement park rides and, best of all, hordes of handsome, bare-chested men, many of whom slip away from the crowds for encounters of a less political nature. The results comprise one of the best films yet made by director Julien in his long and prolific career.
As is often the case at Gay Pride gatherings, many strangers spontaneously connect in the heat of the moment, others simply fantasize about the gorgeous specimens they see on all sides. The sexual content of Sex Parade includes both sorts of scenes, actual pairings and those that are only imagined, and both work equally well. The six explicit episodes are webbed together by a pair of lovers (Sidney Sampaio, who looks like a young Chris Noth, and Emerson Prat, a lean beauty with lush lashes and sparkling eyes). As they stroll through the throngs, they are followed by a stalker (Marlon Prado) with a videocam who films their every move. To see the two stars in action, however, we have to wait until the final scene, but it is well worth the wait.
First off, they pass a bright-eyed, bushy-tailed youth in the crowd (Renato di Giorgio), who is staring up at a hunky worker in a building high above. The man (Alfonso Ribeiro, who has acquired an elaborate tattoo on the back of his neck since his days as a Kristen Bjorn star) waves him up, and soon the youth has joined Ribeiro and another worker (the weathered Jorge Rios) in an empty apartment they are painting. Both dive for the newcomer to slather his swimmer's body and take turns devouring his rockhard erection. The playful di Giorgio drives the scene with his unadulterated delight in recreational sex. Soon he too is on his knees, sucking the others, always with an antic gleam in his eye and a shit-eating smile on his face. In time, both he and Rios fuck Ribeiro, but it is di Giorgio's turn that is memorable - he seems as happy as a kid on a hobbyhorse. All three deliver copious money shots, but di Giorgio's is the best - worthy of instant replay.
Next we see a cordon of policemen working crowd control along the edge of the street, and one of them (Bernardo Lima) follows two celebrants (the very hairy Tiago Nunes and a shaved bodybuilder, Gabriel Faria) to a stonewall being used as an outdoor urinal by the revelers. There, Nunes kneels to watch before he and Faria slip away to a back alley for a bit of private time. Lima (in helmet, boots and uniform) follows them, watches their heated foreplay and then joins in. All three have hard cocks and talented mouths, but Nunes does the lion's share of head giving. What's more, his incredibly hairy ass gets quite a workout from the other two's tongues and cocks, but the apex of the scene finds him on the receiving end of a doggie fuck from Faria while simultaneously sucking Lima. Then the two tops shift positions and work their way to climaxes all around. Eventually, the trio shifts to an abandoned couch for a second round of sucking and fucking and a second set of money shots, which are as impressive as the first.
In the third scene, the two lovers are separated, and Sampaio wanders into a boutique to check out the latest fashions. He acquires a pair of sexy new under-briefs and heads off for a sniff session. It's hard to tell exactly when his fantasy begins, but pretty soon he has conjured up a boy toy (Matheus Marques) sporting only those briefs and so many tattoos we lost count. A delectably perverse divertissement, the scene progresses as Sampaio licks his way over each of the kid's body etchings and eventually heads south to eat ass. (He is an amazingly talented tongue-fucker.) In time, the sleeping Marques awakens to service Sampaio, and the scene ends with Sampaio dry humping the kid and firing off (no-handed) a terrific fusillade of spooge between the kid's buttocks. That's when Sampaio's fantasy ends, and he comes to in time to discover that he is all alone with a mess on his belly. You guessed it - he uses the new briefs to clean himself up.
The next two scenes are the fantasies of dark, kinky-haired Felix Bahia as he stands watching go-go dancers gyrating on a makeshift stage. His first object of desire is the sleekly glamorous, totally exhibitionistic Igor Martins, who he envisions lying on a single bed, first fucking the mattress, then rolling over to stroke his perfect, helmet-headed cock and finally spraying a copious load all over the glass door of a shower stall. Martins is arguably the most handsome man in the film, and it is a shame that his contribution is limited to solo work. The final scene - the longest and by far the best - finds the stalker watching the day's videotape and indulging in a reverie of what the two lovers did after the celebration. The sequence is set in an indoor pool with a manmade waterfall under which they begin to make love. Tender kisses and passionate embraces soon escalate to Prat fingering Sampaio's enticing rosebud in the foamy water. Butch bottom Sampaio is also a superb deep-throat artist who remains rock-hard throughout, and Prat takes full advantage of his partner's courtesan mentality. (Note the eye contact between the two and be sure to watch Sampaio watching Prat come.) The first set of money shots are notable, especially Sampaio's geysers. But the two are just getting warmed up - a round of horseplay in the pool quickly segues into an anal aquacade. When they get around to the ass-eating and multipositioned fucking - half in, half out of the water - Prat proves to be a strong top and Sampaio a resilient bottom who pounds himself with as much enthusiasm as Prat pounds him. Best of all, the second set of money shots are as explosive as the first.
Thanks to the director's vision, the striking cast (particularly the superb Sampaio), the energetic sex play, the vibrant videography and in no small measure the pulsating salsa score by Rick Cardam, Sex Parade demonstrates Gay Pride in more ways than one.
