I wanna be Hervé Handsome -- at least for one day. The European director constantly manages to wrestle up large casts (mostly Hungarian) with buff bodies, killer faces and big ole usable boners. In "Hot Type," he has assembled 13 of his patented studs. While Handsome's sex action always crackles, the rap on him has been that his scenes can be methodical, and the performers are mostly trade. To some extent, that is still true, but he certainly seems to be swinging in a more equal-opportunity direction, with his models increasingly more eager to please each other.
As the video begins, a young man, Nicholas Babral, forces himself into a country home to escape the snow. Inside, he finds the book "Hot Type," and entertains himself with the five sexual scenarios written therein. In a swell touch, the models look at the camera frequently, performing for both us and reader Nicholas.
In the first, two men on a bed, Albert Jarat and Sim Cerna, slowly worm their way out of their undies, revealing lickable and ready for prime-time dicks. Cerna is a fuzzy brunet creature, and the chiseled Jarat chomps lustily on his erection. The head is rather quick here, before Jarat replaces his mouth with his butt, effortlessly sitting on Cerna's pole. These two hump themselves silly, changing positions atop and off the bed, before spraying their juice.
"Hot Type's" first three-way teams Marcel Sarki, Achille Fanyar and Leo Dandar. Sarki and Fanyar are muscular types, while the blond Dandar is slimmer and more compact. Dandar pulls the two cocks out of their briefs and nibbles away. Again, it's not long before he is sprawled on his back, ass being penetrated, while he continues to suck dick passionately. The tops are forceful here, and the bottoms vocal and sweaty. Their moans lend a lot to the realism and eroticism of the moment. Baber, my favorite of this lot, a thin and hairy swimmer type, is the Ray Harley of the group. His ass just never quits. The others all line up and poke him, while he hangs on a chair for dear life. Golyo, whose own ass was invaded earlier, gives an equally fine pumping, before the four cum all over and near each other. It's one of the flick's highlights.
Sultry Cerna makes a welcome return next, ascending the stairs to frolic with Attila Kialt and Zack Berenc. Only Cerna is trade here, while Kialt hungrily fellates Cerna, Berenc bends down and swallows his meat. It's Kialt who is the lucky bottom here, taking the thick bats of both men with vigor. The scene is also a bit slower and more romantic than some of the earlier loops, with the enthusiastic Kialt (typically) on fire.
By this time Barbal has been getting aroused by all the horseplay, and pulls out his own lovely erection. He envisions himself in the final loop, paired with Adrian Vadasz, a leatherman wearing a mask in the scene. Surprisingly, Babral is perfectly content to be used. Vadasz spanks his perfect little buttcheeks, sticks fingers up his cavern, and then crams a huge black dildo up Barbal in an elegant and rousing move. Vadasz does get around to plowing Barbal's pink and oh-so-tight hole, and Nicholas squirts a doozy of a load both in his "scene" and in real life.
Handsome delivers again here, with a dynamite cast of Eastern European performers. "Hot Type" proves to be an ideal title, perfectly describing the action leaping out of the book and a fit description of each of the 13 specimens Handsome has in his corner. If Handsome ever needs an intern, I'm free.

The Hot Type in the title of Herve Handsome's latest release for High Octane refers to the erotic temperature of the torrid text of a dirty book. The star of the film is a lean, youthful, dark-haired, innocent (Nicholas Babral) who is first seen breaking into a palatial country home closed up for the winter. He discovers the book, placed conspicuously on a velvet-draped table as if waiting for him, and he begins to read. The rest of the film's two-hour running time is devoted strictly to the heated scenes it suggests.
In this production, Handsome, the noted European director (who utilizes mostly Hungarian performers) departs from many of the conventions that have served him so well during his impressive career. Although his films have always been short on narrative content, this two-hour, five-scene production is less like a film than an erotic ballet. It consists of five variations on a theme: Two duets, two trios and a pas de quatres.
In Hot Type , there is no occupational milieu - factory, firehouse, barracks ? only the very ordinary old-world rooms of the house, and the bland backgrounds thrust the flesh into the forefront in ways the director has never done before. Also, the actors frequently play directly to the camera instead of their partners, calculatedly sharing their sexual sizzle with the viewer. The effect is similar to that of a stage actor breaking "the fourth wall" and speaking directly to his audience. The performers know they are being watched and invite the viewer in to share each sex act that transpires. You are there.
Almost at once, the "hot type" dissolves to the first explicit scene, in which swarthy Sim Cerna (aka Enrico Benetti when working for Pacific Sun) and smooth-chested Albert Jarat (aka Jose Ganatti for Falcon) are discovered posing on an old double bed, both wearing nothing but tight white briefs and sporting whopping hard-ons visible in them. Soon, cocks spring out, and Jarat dives for Cerna's meat. The oral action is brief and completely one-sided. (Cerna has shown his considerable cocksucking skills in his Benetti persona, but here he is strictly trade.) The anal action, however, more than makes up for it. Jarat soon grabs his own uncut shaft and impales himself for a long ride. Both fit together as snugly as the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, and Cerna is indefatigable as he jabs into the voracious bottom in four different positions before both fire off hefty loads.
Back in the reading room, star Babral, now groping himself, turns a page, and the scene dissolves into another tableau in the dining room - Marcel Sarki (the beefy giant who worked as Sean Madar in Handsome's MotoStuds), a brunet sex machine named Achille Fanyar and a spectacular dirty blond, Leo Dandar (aka Andreas Harris for Pacific Sun), who sprawls on the dining table, waiting to be devoured. The briefs motif is once again highlighted - all are playing with themselves for the camera - performing for the viewer. Soon all three are swirling into action, with Dandar as the piece de resistance. He is an intuitive sexualist, more involved emotionally (and not just mechanically) than anyone else in the scene or the film, for that matter. He sucks the others with both skill and enthusiasm, exuding a come-fuck-me attitude that is irresistible. Both nail him in a variety of positions, and in each he sucks while getting skewered. To top things off, he gets on his haunches to take both at once up his accommodating ass. He is a notable screen presence.
By this time, Babral has his fist buried under his open fly, and the printed page again dissolves to a formal tableau - this time a quartet with all the men in those eye-catching white briefs filled with waiting erections, and this time each hunk is allowed a solo moment to slip his out for the viewer's delectation. They are George Jambor (a supermacho drilling machine), the ubiquitous Thierry Golyo (the only versatile member of the cast), Garrett Felado (a puffy body builder) and Charles Baber (a gaunt, hairy poet type with haunting eyes, right out of "La Boheme"). Both Jambor and Felado are strictly trade; both Golyo and Felado are world-class cocksuckers and fuckees. Mostly they work in pairs, but the sequence culminates in a gangbang of Baber, who effortlessly takes everyone's rod (including Jambor's, which is no mean feat). The sexual choreography here is the most presentational, the most stylized of any sequence in the film.
When next we see Babral, he pulls his cock out of his fly and goes to work on it as the tape dissolves into the hottest variation - and most balletic - of the production. It starts with the hirsute Cerna (again in nothing but white shorts, this time at the top of a Victorian staircase) slowly working himself up as he works his way down the stairs to join Zack Berenc (aka Diego Sanchez) and Attila Kialt (aka Fernando Nielsen). They too flaunt their endowments for the viewer before easing into a frieze-like menage in which Kialt gobbles down Cerna as Berenc swallows him. This is performance art at its most hard-sell, and in particular Cerna never forgets that he is playing to his unseen audience. The simmering Berenc, who began in films as uptight trade, here sucks cock eagerly, fucks with verve and instigates the only kiss in the scene. Kialt is a hungry bottom, and the scene is filled with pyrotechnics, as if three X-rated Nureyevs had been given the stage and told to outdo each other. It is the high point of the film.
When we return to Babral, his tower of a cock is now out, and he is fantasizing himself into the final turn of the film, his duet with a masked leatherman (Adrian Vadasz) who roughs him up, then spanks dildos, fingers and eventually fucks his virgin ass, deep-shafting him to a single fountain of gism that erupts like a gusher of crude oil - and it is matched by his second one back in the reading room to complete the performance.
The bravura sexual acrobatics of Eastern European performers have always been undermined by their lack of emotional involvement, and here director Handsome avoids that problem by consciously inviting his men to ignore each other, to concentrate on their own self-gratification, and to perform strictly for their audience. It is an audacious experiment that works amazingly well. We would love to see him next attempt a love story; in the meantime, we can only shout "Bravo, bravo, bravissimo" to Hot Type.
