The attention to detail in recreating eras long gone is so stunning in this piece that it almost seems like West spent 35 years creating it, rather than mere months celebrating it.
On top of that, West has thrown in a plot that is well-executed, with a necessary trace of mocking self-delight, and written with tactful follow-through, not to mention cast with amazing clairvoyance for what guys will make what passions work in what combinations. I have a feeling I'll tend to wax enthusiastic more of the non-sexual aspects below, but bear with me and "Gluttony." To watch this unique flick in the hopes of merely getting off is not doing it the justice it deserves. Don't get me wrong, get off! You'll have ample opportunity for that, but take time to notice the rest.
The surprisingly clear plot takes its cue from Oscar Wilde's brilliant "The Picture of Dorian Gray." The title character here is simply Dorian, a porn performer and director, played elegantly by Eric Hanson. Tanner Hayes plays Cyril Vane, the college student who makes a documentary out of searching for the dormant auteur. He doesn't know where to find Eric until he happens across a yard sale where he finds a Super-8 copy of "Original Sin," a classic from the sixties starring Dorian. In the true spirit of the time, this is a nature flick where two men, Eric, whose body is so beautifully fit is seems as though he choreographed every muscle to be in perfect shape for this shoot, and stunning mustached Latino Diego Stefano connect over a forbidden apple. The scene is shot on grainy soundless film that evokes perfectly the capabilities of the era. Even if you don't know the period intimately, you know enough to appreciate the absolute diligence West has blasted onto this scene in demanding authenticity of genre. Though the other two scenes spent a lot of time concentrating on perfecting a yearn to return to the porn of the past, this scene just goes all-out with sexual lust and emerges the hottest on the tape. I suppose if you had to categorize the porn of the present, you could say many scenes fit into categories of boundary-bursting or arch romanticism. This scene is definitely the latter. I've written more here than I usually do, mainly because Wash West gives the viewer of this genuine epic so much to digest in the course of a standard video. With Eric Hanson as a becalmed centerpiece, the rest of the guys jump in with mountainous energy and drive, having obviously been schooled by West in the porn they are portraying. There isn't a sexual misstep at all here, and I can't really say there is a non-sexual one either. Goofy as it sounds, this is a "sin" you'll want to commit over and over and over. It might become your favorite one.

Seven deadly sins, seven different directors, seven wildly different videos. In this installment of the series, writer/director Wash West takes the sin of gluttony (a great desire or passion for something) and turns it into an artistic, sexual experience. Borrowing a premise from Oscar Wilde, West takes a gay man in the 1960s and follows him throughout the next three decades of gay porn but without the character, Dorian, aging. While this might sound like a plot rip-off, it is filmed in such an innovative, creative way that the century-old story seems fresh and new. And more importantly, incredibly sexy! West's exploration of modern gay porn is so enthralling that it almost eclipses the star of the video, the incredibly delicious Eric Hanson. Though seldom seen in videos lately, Hanson is still as strikingly handsome as ever. Not to mention his slightly hairy, athletically muscular bod, thrusting thick cock and round, hungry ass. Damn! Hanson's a deadly sin all by himself!
Hanson's character, Dorian, is actually the subject of a college film student's senior year video diary. The plot is simple and easy to follow, the stars are good-looking and perform well, but it's director West's use of effects to recreate period piece porn that steals the show in this video. His take on all the different eras is right on the money every time. I can't think of a more imaginative, original video that I've seen in the last year. This is the perfect video to show friends who claim that porn is stupid/boring/only deals with sex. And on top of all that, we get handsome Hanson in two scenes and bottoming in one of them! Yum!! I wish the effects weren't as good in the '50s/'60s scene because I actually found it distracting, but how can you complain about something so authentic? The interviews between the scenes are so deliciously satirical that you might find yourself laughing out loud.
